Non avevamo dubbi, è stato “Oppenheimer” ha conquistare i BAFTA 2024 questa domenica sera, vincendo i premi per il regista Christopher Nolan e l’attore Cillian Murphy, oltre a portarsi a casa il premio per il miglior film. Complessivamente, il film ha portato a casa sette maschere d’oro dei BAFTA, mentre “Poor Things” (Povere Creature!) si è piazzato al secondo posto con cinque vittorie.

La presidente dei BAFTA 2024 Sarah Putt ha aperto la cerimonia alla Royal Festival Hall di Londra domenica sera dando il benvenuto al pubblico di star, tra cui il Principe William, arrivato da solo mentre la moglie Catherine, Principessa del Galles, continua a rimanere a riposo a casa dopo l’operazione. William, che è presidente del BAFTA, non ha tenuto un discorso, senza dubbio in parte a causa del rinnovato interesse per la sua vita personale dopo la diagnosi di cancro del padre Carlo III il mese scorso. Nel suo discorso, la Putt ha detto che avrebbe inviato a Catherine e al Re “i nostri migliori auguri” prima di passare il testimone al conduttore della serata, la star di “Doctor Who” David Tennant.
Tennant ha aperto lo spettacolo con uno sketch preregistrato ispirato alla sua serie di serrate “Staged”, che ha visto la partecipazione del co-protagonista Michael Sheen – oltre che del cane di Sheen, Bark Ruffalo – e di una serie di volti famosi, tra cui Tom Hiddleston e Judi Dench. Tennant è poi salito sul palco vestito in kilt con Bark Ruffalo al seguito. “Questa serata andrà più liscia del petto di Ken”, ha scherzato, riferendosi alla bambola di plastica interpretata da un torso glabro di Ryan Gosling in “Barbie”.
Tra i presentatori della serata c’erano David Beckham, che ha consegnato la maschera d’oro per l’eccezionale debutto britannico, e Dua Lipa, che ha presentato il premio per l’eccezionale film britannico. Nel frattempo, Sophie Ellis-Bextor ha cantato il suo successo di “Saltburn”, “Murder on the Dancefloor”. Sebbene la star Barry Keoghan non si sia unito a lei sul palco per rievocare la famigerata scena alla fine del film, ha comunque dato un bacio a Ellis-Bextor dal pubblico.
