Registrato negli studi di New Orleans, El Paso e Mount Desert Island, nel Maine e in uscita il 6 maggio per Columbia Records, gli Arcade Fire confermano i dettagli sul loro primo album in arrivo dopo 5 anni intitolato “WE”e prodotto da Win Butler, Régine Chassagne e Nigel Godrich con la speciale collaborazione di Peter Gabriel.

Le sessioni per l’album WE degli Arcade Fire risalgono allo scorso anno in seguito all’ondata di Coronavirus che li ha portati a “scrivere senza interruzioni per il periodo più lungo della nostra carriera» spiega Butler.
Ora è finalmente possibile rivelare i dettagli sulle origini dell’album, il cui titolo è ispirato al romanzo omonimo del russo Yevgeny Zamyatin, una storia sci-fi del 1921 che ha stimolato la fantasia di grandi autori come George Orwell e Aldous Huxley.
Sarà presente inoltre nell’album Peter Gabriel, che canta insieme a Régine Chassagne il brano Unconditional II (Race and Religion). “Ascoltavo le sue canzoni alla radio quando ero piccola, erano le uniche con una batteria con lo stesso suono che sentivo nella musica della mia famiglia” confessa Chassagne.
La struttura dell’album WE
L’album presenta una struttura definita, chiaramente legata all’esplorazione di temi che si rivelano sempre attuali.
È diviso in due parti per un totale di 40 minuti e 7 canzoni. La prima parte “I” che comprende le prime 3 tracce, esplora il tema della solitudine e dell’isolamento, mentre la seconda “WE” con le restanti 4 tracce celebra la riconnessione.
La copertina dell’album è una fotografia dell’artista JR con colorazione aerografo di Terry Pastor (per i lavori delle copertine di Hunky Dory e Ziggy Stardust di David Bowie).
